Top Ten Tuesday

Today's top ten Tuesday from The Broke and the Bookish is Words/Topics That Make Me Not Pick Up A Book.

These were just what came easily.

Books where the main characters are powerless - Sometimes these are great, but they are so hard to read I tend to shy away and they stay on my TBR shelf forever.

Road Trips (I OD'd on these - your fault John Green)

Fairies

Stalkery male leads - the current trend of codependent men who stalk the girls they like just make me cringe.

Sequels to Romantic Comedies - the point of these books is the happy ending.  There is no way to so a sequel without going "gotcha...everyone wasn't that happy".  These generally end up ruining the original for me.

  1. Sequels, in general, just aren't my thing. Leave it alone. Let Scarlett be, with her loneliness for a while. She deserves it.

    Here's my Top Ten list.

    1. Ooooh ESPECIALLY sequels written by someone who wasn't the original author. I actually love Scarlett, but that is totally how the story that we knew was suppose to end.

  2. Stalkers are totally scary and really not something I wanna read about. And when they're romanticized? Hell naw! :X

  3. Oh, I know just what you mean about sequels to romantic comedies. All I can think of is the sequel to Jennifer Weiner's Good in Bed where the nice guy our heroine lands ends up dying early on. So not cool.

    1. I KNOW! Could she please have one infant in a situation where the father is involved. Would that be too much to ask?

I loved "Total Waste of Makeup" by Kim Gruenenfelder and "Queen of Babble" by Meg Cabot when I first read them. Then the sequels came out and now I can't enjoy rereading the originals.

  4. Yeah, I get what you mean when you say that books where the main characters are powerless are really hard to read. You don't want the characters to suffer, but that, of course, can't be avoided.
    Awesome list! :D
